The Downriver Council for the Arts invites artists to submit work for Unsettled Tones, a moody and atmospheric October exhibition exploring the subtle—and not-so-subtle—edges of unease. This show embraces the art that makes viewers pause, lean in, and feel that quiet shiver along the spine. We’re seeking work that captures tension, ambiguity, darkness, distortion, or the uncanny—whether conveyed through color, concept, sound, story, or emotion. Themes could explore anything that plays with mood, distortion, or the unknown; the eerie beauty of the almost-familiar; shadows that shift, faces that blur, or spaces that feel “not quite right”; Emotional discomfort—melancholy, dread, longing, or tension; haunting atmospheres, surreal scenes, or psychological twists; sound or silence as a visual idea. Interpret the theme literally, abstractly, quietly, loudly—just make us feel something.
