Young Songwriters Fall 2026
The Downriver Council for the Arts is introducing a new songwriters program with FREE songwriting workshops for students 12-18 years old!
Over the course of four weekends, students in groups of ages 12-15 and 16-18 will meet on Saturdays and Sundays for a comprehensive introduction to songwriting, including:
• Song analysis • Lyric writing • Improvisation • Applied music theory • Finding and developing song ideas • Building Melodies, Rhythm, and Chordal Support • Writing for your instrument • Songwriting circle
No previous music training is required, and full scholarships are available to cover the cost of all materials, including a musical instrument (depending on need and availability).
Saturdays and Sundays (times to be determined by number of registrants)
2026 Session 1: (4 weeks) 9/26 – 10/25 (does not meet 10/10 and 10/11)
or
2026 Session 2: (4 weeks) 11/7 – 12/6 (does not meet 11/28 and 11/29)
Ages: 12-15 and 16-18 yrs
