FIGURE DRAWING
Learn classical techniques and explore the history of figure drawing.
Mondays 6-8pm: 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3, 8/10, 8/17
This class introduces the fundamentals of figure drawing through guided instruction, demonstrations, and art history. Students will develop skills in gesture, proportion, anatomy, composition, light and shadow, and expressive line while gaining a deeper understanding of the human figure. Designed for all skill levels, the course builds technical ability, observation skills, confidence, and personal artistic expression. Ages 14+. Cost: $100.
Supplies you will need to bring: HB, 2B and 4B pencils | Kneading eraser | 18x24” Newsprint pad | Optional: Tinted Paper, white prismacolor colored pencil
PORTRAIT ILLUSTRATION
Learn the classical techniques and art history of portrait illustration.
Wednesdays 6-8pm: 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12, 8/19
This class introduces the fundamentals of portrait illustration through guided instruction, demonstrations, and art history. Students will develop skills in facial proportions, anatomy, shading, composition, and capturing likeness while working primarily in pencil and charcoal. Designed for all skill levels, the course builds technical ability, confidence, and personal artistic expression while exploring portrait traditions from Renaissance to modern illustration. Ages 14+. Cost: $100.

SKETCHING DOWNTOWN WYANDOTTE
Urban Sketching & Plein Air Drawing Class
Saturdays 9:30am-12:30pm: 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22
Discover the beauty and character of historic Wyandotte through observational sketching. Students will explore downtown streets, architecture, parks, and riverfront views while learning urban sketching and plein air drawing techniques. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and on-location sketching, participants will build skills in composition, perspective, line work, shading, and visual storytelling using pencil, charcoal, and optional watercolor. Designed for all skill levels, this class helps students gain confidence drawing on location while creating a personal urban sketchbook. No prior drawing experience is required. Each class, we will meet at the DCA for a discussion, slideshow and demonstration for about 30 mins. Then we will spend approximately 2 hours on location drawing and/or painting. For the final 30 mins we will gently critique each other’s work. Ages 16+. Cost: $125.
