Make Shibori Fabric Art - 02/06/19
Wednesday, Feb 6, 2019 from 6-8pm
The Japanese word Shibori is defined as various ways of embellishing fabric and textiles by means of folding and shaping the cloth in a secure fashion before dying. The root verb is shiboru which literally means to “wring, squeeze or press”, emphasizing the action performed on the fabric. This technique treats the cloth as a three-dimensional surface rather than two-dimensional through the process of folding, crumpling, stitching, twisting, plucking and even placing objects such as stones in the fabric and securing it. Through this approach, there are a huge variety of ways to practice the shibori fabric technique, thus there are many interesting results from around the world.
In this workshop, we will take the traditional techniques of tying and dying fabric, shibori, to create and experiment. The results are elegant and unique designs on fabrics that are versatile and can be applicable to many uses such as fashion, fine art, home decor, etc.
